Welcome Parents

About Year 2

Mrs Miller and Mrs Tattersdill are the class teachers of the 30 children in Year 2. Our wonderful Teaching Assistan tis Mrs Jones who works with the children at various times of the week in our classroom to support our learning.  Our class is a friendly, happy and exciting place to learn. We have everything that we need nearby and have practical exploration areas in our classroom to support our topic work. We also love to display our work and enhance our learning through classroom displays and art & design.

All of the children are encouraged to look after our classroom and keep our lovely resources tidy. We have a busy day beginning with our class prayers and welcome.  In Key Stage One, we follow the Read, Write Inc Phonics programme. Once the children finish the programme, they follow our Whole Class Guided Reading sessions. We love reading and have a wide variety of engaging texts in our lovely reading area. We also share Collective Worship either in class, as a key stage or together with whole school. We have very busy days in Year 2 with tasks that help us daily with our reading, English and Mathematics. Our Curriculum is  exciting and it helps us to learn about the world around us as well as important people and events in history. We enjoy PE twice a week. Once with the class teacher and once with Mr. Sheahan. We learn dance, gymnastics, athletics and games. We also have a dedicated lesson each week of PSHCE which helps us to develop our personal, social, health and citizenship education.

We love reading in Year 2 and take a reading book home each night. We have guided reading sessions in class as well as support with our home reading. We visit the library and can take out a different book each week of our choice.

We love to celebrate our achievements. Each week someone is presented with ‘Star of the week’ in assembly for achievements in attitude to learning. We also celebrate handwriting improvements each week in assembly. The writer of the week has their work displayed in school and they take a certificate home.

We hope that you have enjoyed reading all about Year 2.  I’m sure that you will agree that it is an exciting place to learn.
